Safe Work Australia reports that an average of 11 workers die each year from contact with electricity. Test and tag exists to find the faults that cause those incidents before anyone touches the equipment.
AS/NZS 3760 is the Australian Standard that sets out how workplace electrical equipment is inspected and tested. Once an item passes, it carries a tag showing who tested it, when, and when it is next due.

Test and tag questions
Who needs to test and tag?
High-risk industries including construction, demolition and mining are required to have electrical equipment tested and tagged every three months, because those environments damage equipment quickly. For other industries the duty sits with the employer to keep staff and visitors safe.
How often does equipment need retesting?
Intervals range from three months to five years depending on the environment the equipment works in. We set your intervals against AS/NZS 3760 and remind you before each one falls due.
Which standard applies?
AS/NZS 3760 is the Australian Standard covering in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. Australian Standard 3012 also applies on construction and demolition sites.
What happens if an item fails?
It gets a fail tag and comes out of service so nobody can use it. The failure is recorded on your report, and we can advise whether the item is worth repairing or replacing.
Do you provide documentation?
Yes. Every visit produces an asset register of what was tested and a pass and fail report, provided on completion.
